HAVE TO and DON’T HAVE TO – lesson ideas for A1 students

Previously, I worked on how to teach modal verbs to A1 students. Today, I would like to share an idea on how to teach ‘have to’. The four exercises presented will allow students to revise vocabulary on chores at home. They also get some practice with using ‘have/ has to‘ and ‘don’t have to/doesn’t have to‘ for obligation.
Students need to form all types of sentences – affirmative, negative and questions. There is something for visual and kinaesthetic learners. Pictures used in Ex. 1 remind them of vocabulary on chores at home. Having to interview other students in class should engage them in the process of making up sentences in an enjoyable way.
