How to introduce yourself and others… …czyli kilka przykładowych wypowiedzi i parę porad ukazujących jak przedstawić siebie i innych

In case of an informal meeting, you may introduce people to one another by using their first name. If the people you are introducing to one another have special interests or hobbies, it’s good to mention that as well. If it’s not a secret…and in most cases it isn’t ;)…you should also add what is the specific relationship between you and the person you intend to introduce.

W przypadku nieoficjalnego spotkania (przyjęcie, prywatka, impreza, przypadkowe spotkanie), przedstawiając komuś osobę posługujemy sie zwykle jej imieniem. Jeśli ludzie, których sobie przedstawiasz mają podobne zainteresowania czy hobby, dobrze jest o tym wspomnieć. Jeśli to nie tajemnica…a w większości przypadków nie jest… powinieneś dodać informację o tym jakie relacje cię wiążą z osobą, którą właśnie przedstawiasz (siostra, dziewczyna, kuzyn, etc..).

Examples:

1. You’ve brought Chris, your close school friend, to another friend’s party. Chris plays trumpet in the school orchestra.

Przyprowadziłeś swojego kolegę Chrisa na imprezę innego znajomego. Chris gra na trąbce w szkolnej orkiestrze.
Oto jak można przedstawić go na przyjęciu:

Hi everyone. I’d like you to meet my close friend Chris. We are in the same class. Chris is an excellent trumpet player. He’s one of the best players in the school orchestra.

2. You are walking with Samanta, your girlfriend. Like your father, she’s keen on photography.  In the street you meet your dad accidentally.

Spacerujesz ze swoją dziewczyną Samantą. Tak jak twój ojciec, Samanta uwielbia fotografię. Na ulicy spotykacie przypadkiem twojego tatę.
Wypadałoby przedstawić Samantę tacie. Jak to zrobić?

Hi Dad! This is Samanta, my girlfriend. Like you, she’s keen on portrait photography.

At a formal event (for example a business meeting or a formal lunch), when introducing people, you have to say their first and last names and you should also define their professional position. If you’re introducing somebody with a title (doctor, professor), you ought to include that as well.

Na spotkaniu oficjalnym (na przykład spotkaniu biznesowym, oficjalnym lunchu), kiedy przedstawiasz osoby, musisz posłużyć się zarówno imieniem, jak i nazwiskiem. Powinieneś także powiedzieć jaka jest pozycja zawodowa tych osób. Jeśli przedstawiasz osobę z tytułem naukowym (doktor, profesor), należy tę informację również dołączyć.

1. You are at a formal meeting arranged by your company and you introduce a new colleague, Stephanie to Anna, an employee in your company.

Jesteś na oficjalnym przyjęciu zorganizowanym przez twoją firmę. Przedstawiasz Annie, pracownicy firmy, nową koleżanke po fachu, Stephanie.
Można zrobić to w sposób następujący:

Anna, this is Stephanie, our new IT Project Manager. Stephanie, meet Anna, our System Operations Specialist.

2. You introduce the professor who will give a speech at the end-of-year ceremony at your school.
Anthony Black is a famous botanist who discovered new plant species in New Guinea.

Masz przedstawić profesora, który wygłosi przemówienie na uroczystości zakończenia roku szkolnego w twojej szkole. Profesor jest słynnym botanikiem, który odkrył kilka nowych gatunków roślin na Nowej Gwinei.

Let me introduce a special guest to you. This is professor Anthony Black, the botanist who discovered some new interesting plant species in remote New Guinea. He’s going to give a speech at the-end-of-year ceremony.
